Meet the Board

We bring different perspectives to the table, but we’re united by a love for Irish and Celtic culture, music, and especially dancing!

Alexander Aavang

Hello! Even though I’ve been obsessed with Riverdance since I was a kid, I didn’t get into dancing until 2013 while I was completing my Masters Degree in Glasgow, Scotland. When I moved up to the Twin Cities, I eventually found my way into the Dubliner and have been dancing regularly ever since!

Besides dancing, I play tin whistle and the uilleann pipes (pictured) in two groups: Pad the Road, and Sionnach. I’ve been a long-term student at the Center for Irish Music in Saint Paul, learning piping techniques from Ryan Behnke and Tom Klein.

This is my second time on a board and first time in a leadership role! I am excited to continue furthering Irish and Celtic dancing, music, and culture through the Twin Cities Ceili Club!

I have been dancing since before I could walk! I grew up doing tap, ballet, jazz, and modern dance. In college I joined and was involved in leading Melee Dance Troup, our performance dance club, and LU Swing Dance Club. As a member of both of these organizations I was involved in teaching and promoting dance within my community.

I also grew up in the folk music community here in the Twin Cities. I know first hand how vibrant our local scene is, and just how lucky we are as dancers to have such amazing musicians as a part of our community. I play fiddle and mandolin with Sionnach and on occasion fill in with Irish Diplomacy, and sing at many of the local pub sings in town.

I have such fond memories of tagging along to ceilis in the Twin Cities with my parents when I was a child, and am so excited to work to continue to promote ceilis here into the future.
